Trump Energy Secretary Urges Europe to Embrace Natural Gas Amid Blackouts

As Europe grapples with widespread energy shortages and blackouts, U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright has called on European nations to abandon “climate alarmism” and adopt natural gas as a reliable energy source. Wright’s remarks come as part of the Trump administration’s broader strategy to promote fossil fuels and energy security.

In a recent address, Wright criticized European reliance on intermittent renewable energy sources, arguing that such dependence has led to energy insecurity. He emphasized that natural gas offers a stable and cleaner alternative to coal, capable of meeting Europe’s energy demands without compromising reliability.

The Trump administration has prioritized energy dominance, reopening oil and gas leasing across hundreds of millions of acres previously restricted under the Biden administration. Interior Secretary Doug Burgum announced the revocation of Biden-era actions that blocked drilling in vast federal waters and lands, including the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and the National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska.

Additionally, the administration has accelerated mining projects critical to energy and defense supply chains, aiming to reduce dependence on foreign minerals. By fast-tracking federal approvals for key mining projects, the White House seeks to bolster domestic production of essential resources like copper and lithium.

President Trump has also urged the European Union to increase purchases of American oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG), warning of potential trade tariffs on EU exports to the U.S. if the bloc fails to do so. These moves underscore Washington’s ambition to expand U.S. energy exports and reduce global reliance on adversarial energy suppliers.
