Elon Musk to Build ChatGPT Rival Citing Concerns Over AI ‘Wokeness’

Tech billionaire Elon Musk is reportedly seeking to create an alternative to OpenAI’s ChatGPT, citing concerns over the “wokeness” of current artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots, USA Today reports.

Musk has approached AI researchers to form a new research lab.

The Tesla and SpaceX CEO has frequently warned of the dangers of AI “wokeness” and “woke mind virus.”

He tweeted in December 2022 that “The danger of training AI to be woke – in other words, lie – is deadly.”

Musk’s comments follow accusations from Republicans that left-leaning technology executives and their companies suppress conservative views and voices.

Critics of ChatGPT claim the AI chatbot is biased against conservatives, with some suspecting that OpenAI employees manipulate its responses.

Acknowledging ChatGPT’s “shortcomings around bias,” Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, said that the company is working to address these issues.

Musk’s proposed alternative to ChatGPT is reportedly aimed at providing a non-woke AI chatbot.

The Tesla CEO tweeted a meme on Tuesday showing a “Based AI” dog attacking “Woke AI” and “Closed AI” monsters, with “based” being a slang term for being anti-woke.

There is growing concern among some conservatives that AI chatbots are developing troubling signs of anti-conservative bias.

Musk’s plans to develop a rival to ChatGPT could be seen as an attempt to provide an alternative to what some view as a biased technology.
