DNC Funnels Millions to Law Firms in Legal Campaign Against Trump, FEC Records Reveal

According to Federal Election Commission (FEC) records seen by the Daily Caller, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) has contributed millions of dollars to law firms that are directly engaging in an “unprecedented lawfare” campaign against former President Donald Trump.

According to the DNC’s FEC filings, since August 2021, the DNC has paid Kaplan Hecker & Fink LLP about $2 million for “legal services.” Roberta A. Kaplan, founding partner of Kaplan Hecker & Fink LLP, defended E. Jean Carroll in her defamation and sexual assault lawsuits against Trump. According to a prior article from The New York Times, Carroll’s claims were partially funded by Reid Hoffman, the wealthy co-founder of LinkedIn.

From the company’s creation in 2017 until August 2021, the DNC did not reimburse the company for any services rendered. In 2019, Carroll filed her initial complaint against Trump.

“Building a law firm for the future rooted in principles of equity, integrity, and justice” is the company’s stated mission statement. Joshua Matz, a partner, represented the House Judiciary Committee in the initial Trump impeachment proceeding.

According to the firm’s website, he was invited back to serve on the second impeachment trial. “Representing former U.S. District Court Judge John Gleeson as a court-appointed amicus in United States of America v. Michael T. Flynn” is another highlight of the firm’s resume.

According to FEC filings, the DNC has paid Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP many million dollars for “legal services” since 2021. According to an earlier report by ABC News, the company has “represented the DNC for a long time.” The case of United States v. Donald Trump, pending before the Supreme Court and involving Trump’s possible criminal responsibility for conduct relating to the 2020 election and January 6, has seen multiple Amicus briefs submitted by Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP.

Several former students at Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr went on to hold important positions in the Biden administration, such as Ambassador to Mexico Ken Salaz and Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas.

“There is now clear and explosive evidence that the Biden DNC is paying Democrat law firms to engage in this unprecedented lawfare and election interference against President Trump,” Mike Davis, a legal adviser to Trump and founder and president of the Article III Project, told the Caller.

“The DNC does not spend a single penny of grassroots donors’ money on legal bills,” said DNC spokeswoman Alex Floyd in April. Floyd made his remarks in reaction to reports that, when Special Counsel Robert Hur was looking into President Joe Biden, the DNC had been using donor funds to cover his legal expenses. When asked about the payments to the two law firms, the DNC did not answer right away.
