Disney’s New Snow White Trailer Surpasses One Million ‘Dislikes’ on YouTube

Disney’s live-action Snow White remake continues to face significant backlash, as both of its trailers have now surpassed one million dislikes each on YouTube.

The first teaser trailer, released in mid-2024, currently has over 1.4 million dislikes compared to just over 100,000 likes.

The official trailer, which debuted on Christmas Day, has received a similarly negative response, with over one million dislikes and only about 40,000 likes. A special look clip released in December is also struggling, with nearly 44,000 dislikes and fewer than 5,000 likes.

The film has been plagued by production issues, with reports suggesting its budget has ballooned to $300 million due to multiple reshoots and delays, making profitability an uphill battle.

Controversy first erupted in 2023 when Disney revealed a multiracial group of actors replacing the traditional seven dwarfs, with only one actor having dwarfism. This sparked outrage from disability advocates, including actor Peter Dinklage, who called the decision “backwards.”

The film’s lead actress, Rachel Zegler, has only added to the backlash with a series of divisive statements. She publicly criticized the original Snow White, calling it misogynistic and promising a modern, feminist version of the story.

She also made inflammatory political remarks, attacking Donald Trump and his supporters, even going so far as to say they should “never know peace.” Additionally, Zegler stirred controversy by posting “Free Palestine” on social media while promoting the film, drawing further criticism.

Disney’s handling of the controversy has been inconsistent, initially denying the dwarf character changes before later admitting that backlash forced them to alter their approach. With overwhelming negative audience reception and growing controversy surrounding its star, Snow White faces a steep uphill battle at the box office.
