DHS Warns Catholic Churches and Pro-life Groups to Prepare for ‘Night of Rage’ Due to Supreme Court Decision

DHS has shared intelligence with Catholic Church leadership.

QUICK FACTS:
  • The Department of Homeland Security has shared intelligence with the Catholic Church about potential threats to pro-life institutions.
  • Documents obtained by journalists outline the intelligence DHS shared with the Catholic Church warning of a “Night of Rage” that could target churches and crisis pregnancy centers.
  • An “urgent memo” from the Diocese of Stockton, California was directed to all clergy and parish and pastoral staff and referenced DHS agent Jesse Rangel’s warning about the manifesto from an “extremist group.”
  • Rangel told the church leadership that “large groups with cells nationwide have already been discovered ‘casing’ parishes, including here in California.”
  • This caused the leadership to issue a “critical notice” to parishes and pastoral center staff “develop a plan should you see or hear anything suspicious.”
DHS MEMO TO CATHOLIC CHURCH:
  • “Make sure you have ushers and or security available during your services and perhaps identify who among your volunteers and parishioners are law enforcement,” the memo from the Department of Homeland Security read. “Suspicious activity would include someone asking out of place questions (Largest Mass times? Doors always open? Do you have security?), looking around the church property, protestors, and general disturbances.”
  • The memo did not name the persons suspected of planning an attack on pro-life entities, however, the group calling itself “Jane’s Revenge” has posted to its website about a “Night of Rage” in response to the demise of federal abortion rights.
BACKGROUND:
  • The Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, insuring federal protection of abortion, is thought likely to cause an emotional reaction by many.
  • Pressure from pro-abortion groups has not swayed the pro-life community from pursuing the right to life for the unborn.
