DeSantis Lays off 1/3 of Campaign Staff Amid Fundraising Difficulties

Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) is laying off more than one-third of his campaign staff as he falls in polls.

Thirty-eight positions will be eliminated, including the 10 event planning staffers whose job cuts were announced earlier this month.

“Following a top-to-bottom review of our organization, we have taken additional, aggressive steps to streamline operations and put Ron DeSantis in the strongest position to win this primary and defeat Joe Biden,” said Generra Peck, DeSantis’ campaign manager.

Governor DeSantis is going to lead the Great American Comeback and we’re ready to hit the ground running as we head into an important month of the campaign,” he continued.

The move comes as DeSantis’ campaign has had fundraising difficulty following the $20 million brought in during the second quarter of 2023.

Much of the $20 million came from donors were are legally unable to continue donating, having already given the max amount.

Additionally, DeSantis has been dropping in polls overall since he announced his campaign. He is still second to former President Donald Trump, who is receiving more than half of the Republican primary votes on average in polls, according to FiveThirtyEight.
