Another Democrat has traveled to El Salvador to support deported illegal immigrant Kilmar Abrego Garcia, calling him a “constituent.”
Rep. Glenn Ivey (D-MD) spent time with the alleged MS-13 gang member over Memorial Day, saying, “I came all the way down from the United States after we contacted their ambassador, after we made a formal request to our ambassador to the El Salvadoran government, and we came down here to visit him today, and now they’re telling us we’ve got to go all the way back to San Salvador to get a permit,” he said in the video. “That’s ridiculous. We ought to have a chance to come in and visit.”
He added that the El Salvadoran government knows “we have the right to do this.”
In a statement accompanying his social media video, Ivey wrote, “Today, I was denied access to seeing my constituent, Mr. Kilmar Abrego Garcia. If there is nothing to hide, cut the crap. Let his lawyer and I check on him.”
Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin previously called Abrego Garcia a “violent illegal alien who abuses women and children.”
He had no business being in our country and we are proud to have deported this violent thug,” McLaughlin stated. “We have now found two petitions for protection against him, in addition to the fact that he entered the country illegally and is a confirmed member of MS-13. Our country is safer with him gone.”
Ivey is the latest Democrat to visit the illegal immigrant. Reps. Robert Garcia (CA), Yassamin Ansari (AZ), Maxwell Frost (FL), Maxine Dexter (OR), and Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) have also traveled to El Salvador to support Abrego Garcia.
