Dan Crenshaw Apologizes After Calling Colleagues ‘Terrorists’ For Not Supporting Kevin McCarthy

Dan Crenshaw apologized this week after the congressman said anti-McCarthy House Republicans were “enemies” and “terrorists.”

QUICK FACTS:
  • Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX), apologized this week after calling his colleagues who would not support Kevin McCarthy “terrorists” during the House Speaker vote.
  • “To the extent that I have colleagues that were offended by it, I sincerely apologize to them,” Crenshaw said. “I don’t want them to think I actually believe they’re terrorists. It’s clearly a turn of phrase that you use in what is an intransigent negotiation.”
  • The congressman claimed he was “a little taken aback” by the “sensitivity” from other Republicans, saying he’s been “called awful, vile things by the very same wing of the party.”
  • After 15 rounds of voting, Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) ultimately secured the Speakership despite a number of Republicans holding the line and refusing to vote for the congressman.
REP. DAN CRENSHAW ON ANTI-MCCARTHY VOTERS BEING “TERRORISTS”:

“Look, things get heated and things get said. Obviously, to people who took offense by that, it’s pretty obvious that it’s meant as a turn of phrase,” Crenshaw said.

BACKGROUND:
  • In June 2022, Crenshaw was named “Eyepatch McCain” by comedian activist Alex Stein at the Texas GOP convention over Ukraine aid funding, red flag gun laws, and his connection to the World Economic Forum (WEF).
  • Stein was swarmed by Crenshaw’s security during the event after calling out the Texas rep as a “globalist” and a “RINO” (Republican In Name Only).
  • “Eyepatch McCain!” Stein said to Crenshaw at the time. “You’re a RINO. You’re a globalist!”
  • Activist Alex Rosen also attempted to ask the congressman about his support for sending $40 billion to Ukraine and his links to the WEF at the convention.
  • “Hey Dan, why are you on the World Economic Forum Young Global Leaders?” Rossen questioned.
  • Crenshaw was on WEF’s list of 127 “Young Global Leaders” in 2019, but the WEF website later scrubbed the page of participants.
