‘Continuation of the Greatest Witch Hunt of All Time’: Trump Responds as New York Civil Fraud Trial Starts

Former U.S. President Donald J. Trump is now amid a significant civil fraud trial, which began on Monday, a pivotal development that could have significant ramifications for Trump and his family’s business enterprise.

This litigation is part of a state case initiated by Attorney General Letitia James and could potentially impact Trump’s expansive real estate domain severely.

Kevin Wallace, a representative from the state Attorney General’s office, claimed in the inaugural statement that the former president had portrayed his financial details to insurers and banks in a manner that was “materially inaccurate” over a span of ten years.

Trump, who is a leading contender for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, is being accused by Attorney General James of exaggerating the valuation of his assets by billions to obtain more favorable loan and insurance conditions.

As Trump made his entrance into the state court in downtown Manhattan, he retorted, “This is a continuation of the single greatest witch hunt of all time.”

Emphasizing the stature of his company, Trump stated, “We have a great company. I built a great company. It’s tremendous,” he substantiated, referencing its ownership of “some of the greatest real estate assets in the world.”

Donning a dark blue suit complemented by a brighter blue tie and adorned with an American flag pin on his lapel, Trump proceeded to label James as “racist” and accused the Democratic Attorney General of harboring a personal grudge against him.

He further claimed to be appearing “before a rogue judge.”

In response, Attorney General James conveyed her preparedness to substantiate her case, stating, “The law is both powerful and fragile,” highlighting that irrespective of one’s financial prowess, “no one is above the law.”

The commencement of Trump’s trial comes in the wake of a preceding ruling by Justice Arthur Engoron, establishing the liability of Trump, his adult offspring, and ten of his enterprises for fraud, Reuters notes.

The focus of the trial is primarily on determining the repercussions and penalties to be imposed.

James is pursuing a minimum of $250 million in fines and seeking extensive bans for Trump and his sons from conducting businesses in New York, along with a five-year commercial real estate restriction against Trump and the Trump Organization.

Trump voiced his discontent vehemently on Truth Social, asserting, “JUST ARRIVED AT THE COURTHOUSE TO FIGHT A CORRUPT & RACIST ATTORNEY GENERAL, AND A ROGUE, OUT OF CONTROL, TRUMP HATING JUDGE, WHO REFUSES TO FOLLOW THE APPELLATE COURT DECISION WHICH KNOKS OUT 80% OF THIS SHAM CASE. THIS IS THE CONTINUATION OF THE GREATEST WITCH HUNT OF ALL TIME. ELECTION INTERFERENCE!”

The proceedings are ongoing, and the development of this trial is being closely monitored due to its implications on Trump’s business dealings and 2024 political aspirations.
