The House Oversight Committee is expanding its probe into allegations of widespread fraud in Minnesota, with Chairman James Comer (R-KY) sending letters to seven state officials, seeking their testimony on the matter.
Those receiving letters include Assistant Commissioner at the Minnesota Department of Education Daron Korte, former Chief Financial Officer of the Minnesota Department of Human Services Dave Greeman, former Assistant Commissioner for Homelessness and Housing Supports at the Minnesota Department of Human Services Eric Grumdahl, former Commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Human Services Jodi Harpstead, former Commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Education Mary Cathryn Ricker, former Commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Human Services Tony Lourey, and Director of Nutrition Program Services at the Minnesota Department of Education Emily Honer.
The letters state that the officials “have information that will assist the Committee’s investigation.”
“Whistleblowers have made it clear that American taxpayers were defrauded in Minnesota, raising serious questions about whether Governor Walz and Attorney General Ellison failed to act or was complicit in the theft,” Comer said in a statement. “The House Oversight Committee is aggressively investigating widespread fraud in Minnesota’s social services programs and the failures of Governor Walz’s administration that allowed taxpayer funds to be funneled to terrorist networks responsible for the deaths of Americans.”
He added that the Committee is “acting decisively and will use its full power to protect hardworking taxpayers.”
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has faced scrutiny following reports of a massive welfare fraud scheme. Reports indicate that the governor failed to implement oversight that could have prevented the abuse.
