While the Army-Navy game captured much of the national spotlight, another football game, the Celebration Bowl in Atlanta, showcased a heartwarming tribute to our nation’s veterans.
Jackson State University (JSU) faced off against South Carolina State in an exciting matchup that included a memorable moment of gratitude for those who have served.
The moment came after JSU’s Travis Terrell Jr. electrified the crowd with an 81-yard punt return for a touchdown, only for a penalty flag to bring the play back. Referee Rory Bernard, however, seized the opportunity to make the moment more than just about football.
As Bernard prepared to announce the penalty, he paused and, with his microphone live, declared, “I’d like to salute our military veterans,” offering a heartfelt gesture of respect to those who have defended our freedoms.
In a time when sports often serve as a unifying platform, Bernard’s tribute reminded everyone of the values and sacrifices that allow us to enjoy events like these. It was a simple yet profound moment that transcended the game and honored the brave men and women who have served our nation.
