CNN is preparing to launch a new streaming platform this fall, just three years after the abrupt failure of its $300 million venture, CNN+, which was shut down after only 23 days. The upcoming service will be integrated into CNN’s “All Access” subscription tier, offering subscribers expanded digital content.
CEO Mark Thompson announced the initiative during a May 13 staff meeting, highlighting the network’s commitment to digital innovation. Executive Vice President Alex MacCallum stated that the new platform will provide “audiences an even more convenient way to access CNN’s trusted reporting and original programming.”
The previous attempt, CNN+, suffered from low subscriber engagement, attracting fewer than 10,000 subscribers before its shutdown. Despite this, CNN is moving forward with its new digital strategy, aiming to adapt to changing media consumption habits.
The new streaming service will be available to current CNN Pay TV subscribers at no additional cost and will also maintain a presence on Warner Bros. Discovery’s Max platform.
President Donald Trump has frequently criticized CNN, accusing the network of biased reporting and labeling it “fake news,” due to an overwhelmingly left-wing slant in its coverage. This is part of a larger trend, as a recent report from the Media Research Center revealed that the major network news outlets, ABC, CBS, and NBC’s coverage of President Trump’s first 100 days in office was a staggering 92% negative.
