Climate Change Activists Endorse Kamala Harris

Climate change organizations, including the Sierra Club and the Green New Deal Network, have endorsed Kamala Harris for her environmental activism and legislative efforts.

“The Biden-Harris administration has done far more to address the climate crisis and environmental injustice than any administration in our nation’s history, the Sierra Club said in a statement.

These groups praise her work on climate issues, contrasting her record with Donald Trump’s, whom they criticize for his ties to corporate interests.

“Kamala Harris is a courageous advocate for the people and the planet,” Ben Jealous, Sierra Club executive director said. “From prosecuting polluters as California’s Attorney General to authoring bold climate legislation that would become central to the landmark Inflation Reduction Act, she has worked for decades to combat the climate crisis and protect our health and future.”

Harris is highlighted for her role in advancing the Green New Deal and promoting environmental justice, with supporters believing her leadership is crucial in addressing the climate crisis.

“Our coalition represents the communities that Democrats need to win, but so many of our friends and family have felt too defeated or silenced to fight,” Kaniela Ing, National Director of the Green New Deal Network said.

“The Kamala Coalition will defeat climate change, lower costs, and deliver what working people need, regardless of their race, class, gender, or geography,” she continued. “This election will come down to groups like ours turning our people out, and we’re all in.”

In April 2024, eight nonprofit organizations combatting so-called climate change received $20 billion from the Biden administration.

The awards, announced at the time, were described as a “first-of-its-kind national network to fund tens of thousands of climate and clean energy projects across America, especially in communities historically left behind and overburdened by pollution.”

“When President Biden and I made the largest investment in our nation’s history to address the climate crisis and to build a clean energy economy, we made sure that every community would be able to participate and benefit,” Vice President Kamala Harris said in a statement. “The grantees announced today will help ensure that families, small businesses, and community leaders have access to the capital they need to make climate and clean energy projects a reality in their neighborhoods.”
