Former NBC host Chuck Todd criticized media outlets and podcast hosts for giving Hunter Biden a platform, arguing the appearances are driven by spectacle rather than substance. Todd said he would never interview Hunter Biden because he is not a political figure and offers no meaningful insight beyond defending his father.
“If you’ve chosen to book Hunter Biden, you’ve chosen to book spectacle,” Todd said, emphasizing that the interviews serve attention-seeking purposes rather than journalism. He accused hosts of prioritizing viral content over meaningful political dialogue, warning that the coverage harms President Joe Biden and the Democratic Party.
Hunter Biden has recently appeared on programs such as Andrew Callaghan’s Channel 5 and Jaime Harrison’s At Our Table. During those interviews, he launched profane attacks on Democratic figures, defended his father, and discussed personal struggles with addiction. Todd argued that airing these moments benefits no one except those seeking clicks and headlines.
Todd also criticized the trend of using media appearances as a form of public therapy. He stated that deeply personal issues should remain private, warning that exposing such struggles in this way often backfires on both the individual and their family.
The comments come as Democrats continue to deal with internal tension and public scrutiny following their 2024 election defeat. Todd suggested that Hunter Biden’s media tour distracts from legitimate political debate and instead fuels controversy that Republicans can exploit.
Todd’s remarks highlight a growing debate among journalists and political commentators over whether giving Hunter Biden more visibility helps or further damages his father’s political standing.
