Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) refused to dismiss the possibility of a President Donald Trump impeachment if Democrats regain control of Congress, during a Sunday interview on CNN’s State of the Union.
Host Dana Bash pressed Schumer after Senator Jon Ossoff (D-GA) recently told voters he “strongly agrees” that Trump should be impeached. When asked if impeachment would be a Democratic priority, Schumer dodged, launching into a broad attack on the President.
“Right now, President Trump is violating rule of law in every way and we’re fighting him every single day in every way,” Schumer claimed. “Our goal is to show the American people over and over again… how bad he is.”
Rather than deny the push for impeachment, Schumer hinted that it remained on the table. “It’s too far away to even judge,” he said, refusing to give a straight answer when Bash pressed him for clarity.
Schumer’s remarks confirm what many conservatives have warned: Democrats are more focused on targeting Trump than serving the American people. Even as polls show Trump’s popularity growing among working-class voters, Democrat leaders continue to obsess over political revenge, rather than addressing real issues like inflation, border security, and national security.
Earlier this year, the Department of Justice launched an investigation into Chuck Schumer for his past threats against conservative Supreme Court justices.
According to The Washington Post, interim D.C. U.S. Attorney Edward R. Martin, Jr. is leading the probe, which will scrutinize Democratic leaders and former Justice Department officials. Among those under investigation is Schumer, due to comments he made regarding Justices Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh.
“We take threats against public officials very seriously,” Martin wrote Schumer in a letter on January 21st. “I look forward to your cooperation.”
