A Chinese illegal alien, released into the United States under the Biden administration, is accused of killing a woman in a fatal bus crash in Tennessee earlier this month. The suspect, 54-year-old Yisong Huang, was driving a tour bus when he allegedly caused a multi-vehicle collision that claimed the life of Kerry Smith and injured two other Americans.
Authorities say Huang was watching a video on his phone at the time of the crash.
Federal officials confirmed that Huang illegally entered the U.S. through the southern border in 2023 and was released into the interior under the Biden administration’s “catch and release” policies. After entering the country, Huang obtained a work permit, a Social Security Number, and a Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), which allowed him to legally operate the tour bus involved in the deadly wreck.
Following the crash, Huang failed a mandatory English proficiency exam required for all CDL holders—raising serious questions about how he was granted the license in the first place.
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy blamed the administration’s lenient immigration and licensing policies, stating that illegal aliens with no qualifications are being allowed to operate massive commercial vehicles on American roads. Duffy referred to CDL-licensed illegal immigrants as “unqualified foreigner drivers” with access to “40-ton missiles.”
DHS Secretary Kristi Noem echoed that concern, pointing to a broader pattern of fatal accidents involving illegal aliens driving semi-trucks and commercial vehicles. She criticized sanctuary states for issuing CDLs to illegal aliens, calling it a threat to public safety.
Noem said the Trump administration is working to end the chaos, citing increased immigration enforcement and efforts to remove criminal aliens from American communities and roadways.
Huang is currently in custody and faces criminal charges related to the deadly crash.
