China Tests AI-Backed Long-Range Artillery

A Hong Kong-based newspaper reported that the Chinese military successfully tested AI-backed long-range artillery, allowing for greater accuracy and reducing the cost of warfare.

The artillery is guided by a laser and can hit human-sized targets from 10 miles away.

The report noted that the United States and China are competing for the development of “smart artillery” that will be more cost-effective.

Reporting from Sputnik:

Traditional artillery has a margin of error of around 100 meters (328 feet), with modern artillery systems also limited in their accuracy since they require a number of real-time parameters like wind and air temperature that need to be taken into account during the fire, the newspaper said. The AI systems accelerate necessary calculations, leading to a better accuracy, it added.
