Four additional members of a Chilean gang accused of burglarizing the homes of NFL and NBA players across multiple states have been charged in connection with the theft ring, federal prosecutors announced. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida said the investigation, which spanned several states, has resulted in the arrests of seven individuals.
Authorities say the South American burglary crews specifically targeted luxury homes situated near green spaces, golf courses, walking trails, and undeveloped land. Their method involved breaking in through rear windows or glass doors, often on the second floor, and stealing jewelry and designer accessories while leaving other valuables untouched.
Each suspect has been charged with conspiracy to commit interstate transportation of stolen property and, if convicted, faces up to 10 years in federal prison.
One of the most notable burglaries occurred at the home of Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow, where thieves stole nearly $300,000 worth of jewelry, watches, designer luggage, and eyewear. Brazenly, they even took photos of themselves flashing the stolen goods, with one suspect seen wearing a necklace featuring Burrow’s jersey number, “9,” and initials, “JB9.”
The break-in happened while Burrow and his team were in Dallas for a game, despite security monitoring the property. A broken bedroom window was discovered, and surveillance footage from a nearby trail showed a suspected Chilean man carrying what appeared to be luggage through the woods.
Other high-profile victims include Kansas City Chiefs stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, NBA players Luka Dončić and Mike Conley Jr., and an unnamed Tampa Bay Buccaneers player. Milwaukee Bucks player Bobby Portis and a yet-to-be-identified Memphis Grizzlies player were also targeted. All the burglaries occurred while the athletes were away, either traveling or playing in professional games.
