ChatGPT ‘Can Now Browse the Internet’ After Bing Integration

OpenAI announced that ChatGPT “can now browse the internet to provide you with current and authoritative information, complete with direct links to sources.”

The move follows an integration with Microsoft’s search engine, Edge, and Bing.

The abiilty to search the internet is now available to those with ChatGPT Plus and ChatGPT Enterprise.

ChatGPT was able to search the internet in March, but the feature was removed after it was discoverd that users could bypass website paywalls.

Now, public, non-paywalled websites can be browsed.

The return of web-searching was celebrated by CEO Sam Altman and CTO Mira Murati.

Altman tweeted, “We are so back,” and a similar sentiment was shared by Murati, who said, “Browsing is back!”

Reporting from Venture Beat:

It should also be noted that Microsoft’s Bing Chat, introduced in February, is powered by “a new, next-generation OpenAI large language model that is more powerful than ChatGPT” and has since then included the ability to browse the web with ChatGPT-style functionality and citations as well.

The new ChatGPT browsing capabilities come just two days after OpenAI also announced the ability for ChatGPT to scan and analyze images and conduct conversations over audio, including analyzing a user’s uploaded audio and speaking back to the user in a generated voice. Last week, OpenAI further announced its new image generation model DALL-E 3, which it said had been rewritten to take advantage of ChatGPT’s natural language processing and conversational skills.
