Case Challenges Religious Exemptions for School Vaccine Mandates

The Supreme Court of the United States has been urged to take up a case challenging the removal of religious exemptions for vaccines required for school.

We The Patriots USA filed a petition calling for the Supreme Court to review the rulings.

“Concerned about falling vaccination rates in its schools, Connecticut repealed its 62-year-old religious exemption to its school vaccination requirement in 2021. It expanded its longstanding medical exemption and created ‘legacy’ exemptions allowing children who had obtained a religious exemption prior to the repeal to remain unvaccinated for the remainder of their primary and secondary educations,” the petition says. “Connecticut’s revised school vaccination mandate excludes non-legacy children who are religiously commanded not to receive required vaccinations from attending public, private, and religious daycares, preschools, and K-12 schools.”

Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont (D) signed a law repealing religious vaccine exemptions in 2021.

After the law faced court challenges, two different judges upheld the move.

“If four Justices vote to hear our appeal, we will be appearing before the nation’s highest court as it considers – for the first time ever – whether a state may deny religious exemptions to vaccinations without violating the Constitution,” We The Patriots USA wrote on their website. “If we are victorious, this case could restore religious exemptions not only in Connecticut, but in other states where they have been lost, such as California, New York, and Maine.”

“It is no exaggeration to say that if this case is heard by the Court, it will be the most important medical freedom case to be decided in our lifetimes, if not ever,” the group added.
