California residents are reportedly experiencing power outages during a severe heat wave, highlighting the state’s problematic shift to green energy.
The popular Los Angeles music venue was forced to cancel a show this week due to the outage.
As California aggressively pushes for a renewable energy future, relying heavily on solar and wind, the state’s energy grid is increasingly strained.
Critics argue that abandoning reliable energy sources like natural gas has led to frequent blackouts, especially in critical times like this.
With Governor Gavin Newsom’s administration aiming for a carbon-free grid by 2045, many see California’s policies as a cautionary tale for the rest of the nation.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass blamed the outages on “extreme heat.”
In September 2022, Newsom announced a sweeping package of what he called the country’s “most aggressive” climate measures to “accelerate the state’s transition” to non-conventional energy sources.
The package included 40 bills that appear to provide new green rules on laws related to things ranging from large-scale industry to the family home and private and public transportation.
The Democratic governor’s office said in a statement at the time that the package of climate change-focused measures aimed to cut pollution and target “big polluters.”
