Border Patrol Reports Largest-Ever Fentanyl Seizure

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) seized an estimated 4 million fentanyl pills in Lukeville, Arizona.

The more than 1,000-pound seizure is the largest in CBP history.

“This is the largest fentanyl seizure in CBP’s history, and reflects our unwavering determination to protect our nation and to disrupt the criminal activities of ruthless drug cartels,” CBP Senior Official Performing the Duties of the Commissioner Troy Miller said. “Every day, CBP officers and agents are on our front line, using their keen instincts and the latest technology to prevent deadly drugs from entering our country and poisoning our communities.”

The discovery was made when CBP officers pulled aside a 20-year-old man in a truck hauling a sport utility vehicle on a utility trailer.

“CBP officers noticed anomalies throughout the frame of the trailer,” the release explained. “With the assistance of a CBP canine team, officers discovered 234 packages of drugs concealed within the frame of a trailer.”

Several days after the discovery, officers seized 270 pounds of methamphetamine and five pounds of cocaine.

“ The estimated street value for these two significant seizures is over $12.6 million,” CBP stated.

The Director of Field Operations for CBP’s Tuscon, Arizona office called the seizure “outstanding work.”
