Biden to Harris at DNC Event: ‘You’re Not Going Anywhere’

President Joe Biden assured Vice President Kamala Harris of her continued importance to the Democratic Party during remarks at the Democratic National Committee’s holiday party on Sunday. Turning to Harris, Biden declared, “You’re not going anywhere,” while praising her integrity and purpose throughout her career.

Biden explained his confidence in selecting Harris as his running mate four years ago. “I knew what I was doing when I asked her to be my vice president,” he said. “She always served this country with purpose and integrity, and she always will.” Harris, who has largely remained out of the public spotlight following her loss to President-elect Donald Trump in November, has not indicated her future plans. Potential options include a run for California governor in 2026 or seeking the Democratic presidential nomination in 2028.

The 82-year-old president reflected on his administration’s accomplishments, citing legislation aimed at economic growth and long-term infrastructure improvements. “We passed historical legislation… laws that, when fully implemented, are going to change America for decades to come,” he stated.

Biden also used the event to criticize Trump’s leadership, referencing the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot. “Just two weeks before being sworn in, we witnessed something we thought would never happen in America—a violent insurrection encouraged by the man sitting in the White House,” he remarked.

Harris attended the event alongside Biden, though she has not announced her next steps following the administration’s defeat. Biden, reflecting on his presidency, said he believed his administration left the nation in better shape than when they entered office. “With all my heart, the answer to that question is a resounding yes,” he told the DNC crowd.

Biden is set to leave office when Trump is inaugurated on January 20.
