President Joe Biden released his Thanksgiving proclamation but did not include any mention of God, causing Americans to criticize the statement.

“Throughout our country’s history, this season of reflection and giving thanks comes in good times and tough ones. Before there was a United States of America, the Pilgrims celebrated Thanksgiving in honor of their first successful harvest and the support and generosity of the Wampanoag people who made it possible,” Biden’s announcement reads.

While Thanksgiving is celebrated as a secular holiday, the holiday has religious roots.

As the United States was founded with Judeo-Christian values, many celebrate the day as giving thanks to God for His provision.

“This Thanksgiving we are grateful for our Nation and the incredible soul of America,” Biden’s proclamation added. “May we all remember that we are the United States of America — there is nothing beyond our capacity if we do it together.”

The statement was criticized on social media, with one X user sharing, “We thank GOD for His provision for the pioneering Christian settlers on that first thanksgiving, and for the kind American Indians who helped them survive.”

The message has been compared to Donald Trump’s Thanksgiving statement, where he described the pilgrims enduring harsh conditions, ultimately coming together to “praise God for His provision.”

“Since then, Americans have always remembered the blessings of freedom and the glory of God.”
