Biden Links Attack on Israel to Ukraine Conflict

Hamas and Putin both want to “completely annihilate” democracy, according to U.S. President Joe Biden.

QUICK FACTS:
  • President Joe Biden spoke from the White House on Friday, discussing the ongoing war in Israel, comparing it to the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
  • “You know, the assault on Israel echoes nearly 20 months of war, tragedy, and brutality inflicted on the people of Ukraine — people that were very badly hurt since Putin launched his all-out invasion,” Biden said.
  • “I know these conflicts can seem far away. And it’s natural to ask: Why does this matter to America?” he asked, noting that “making sure Israel and Ukraine succeed is vital for America’s national security.”
  • The president explained that American values lead other nations.
  • “American leadership is what holds the world together. American alliances are what keep us, America, safe,” he said. “American values are what make us a partner that other nations want to work with. To put all that at risk if we walk away from Ukraine, if we turn our backs on Israel, it’s just not worth it.”
  • He added, “That’s why, tomorrow, I’m going to send to Congress an urgent budget request to fund America’s national security needs, to support our critical partners, including Israel and Ukraine.”
  • Biden called the budget request a “smart investment that’s going to pay dividends for American security for generations,” although the Pentagon has already expressed concerns that stockpiles are low due to constant aid to Ukraine and potentially jeopardizes American defense.
  • “What would happen if we walked away? We are the essential nation.”
BIDEN BROUGHT THE “PROMISE OF AMERICA” TO UKRAINE:
  • Addressing concerns that the United States is running out of weapons to defend itself, Biden stated that when “we use the money allocated by Congress, we use it to replenish our own stores — our own stockpiles with new equipment — equipment that defe- — that defends America and is made in America.”
  • Using emotional appeals to justify increased spending in Ukraine, Biden stressed that when he met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, he “didn’t feel alone.”
  • “I was bringing with me the idea of America, the promise of America to the people who are today fighting for the same things we fought for 250 years ago: freedom, independence, self-determination,” he continued, adding that “time is of the essence” to provide aid to nations in conflict.
  • “I know we have our divisions at home. We have to get past them. We can’t let petty, partisan, angry politics get in the way of our responsibilities as a great nation,” he added. “In moments like these, we have to remind — we have to remember who we are. We are the United States of America — the United States of America. And there is nothing — nothing beyond our capacity if we do it together.”
BACKGROUND:
  • American Faith reported Friday that the Biden administration had posted a photograph of the President with U.S. troops in Israel, failing to obscure the soldiers’ identities.
  • Journalist Sam Shoemate provided a redacted version of the photo, emphasizing the oversight by the White House media team. “The Whitehouse media team shared this picture last night (I added the black boxes) without blurring or censoring the faces of the ‘Delta Force’ (CAG) operator’s faces. They deleted it an hour later after hundreds of thousands had already viewed it. This is a massive failure on the Biden admin,” he pointed out.
  • In the original post by the White House, the caption read, “In Israel, President Biden met with first responders to thank them for their bravery and the work they’re doing in response to the Hamas terrorist attacks.”
