Biden Fails Fact-Check on Claim That More Children Died From Guns Than in Car Accidents

Even NBC News couldn’t save President Joe Biden from a false claim he made in order to frighten Americans into voting for more gun control restrictions.

Biden made the statement in an address to the nation on Thursday in the wake of the horrific elementary school massacre in Uvalde, Texas.

“According to new data just released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, guns are the number-one killer of children in the United States of America,” Biden claimed.

“The number-one killer. More than car accidents! More than cancer!” he continued.

“For God’s sake. How much more carnage are we willing to accept?” he asked.

However, a review of the statistics shows that Biden is bending the truth at best.

According to an analysis of data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention from NBC News, the factoid is only true if gun deaths of people ages 18 and 19 years are included. And that skews the results by a large margin. According to that analysis, the deaths of people ages 18-19 account for as many deaths as those from ages 1 to 17 added together.

And when the White House was asked to justify the president’s claims, officials cited a study that included gun deaths of Americans ages 1 to 24 years old.

NBC News failed to point out that Biden’s statement specifically said “children,” and not many people would consider a 24-year-old person a “child.”

Despite Biden skewing the statistics in order to deceive Americans, NBC News noted that gun deaths are catching up to car accident deaths.

“The gap between vehicular deaths and firearm deaths is narrowing among 1- to 17-year-olds, and may close entirely, according to the CDC’s provisional and incomplete 2021 data,” read the report.

Biden went on in his speech to call for a renewal of the ban on assault weapons and to raise the age limit to purchase certain guns to 21 years. The shooter in the Uvalde massacre reportedly waited until he was 18 years old to legally purchase the weapons he used in the horrific attack.

The president was also widely mocked for a bizarre claim he made that a 9mm bullet could blow the lungs out of a person’s body.
