Biden Claims House GOP ‘Playing Chicken’ With National Security

President Joe Biden claimed that House Republicans are “playing chicken” with U.S. national security, as they have refused further funding for Ukraine unless security for the southern border is also provided.

In a video, Biden said, “Extreme Republicans are playing chicken with our national security, holding Ukraine’s funding hostage to their extreme partisan border policies.”

“Let me be clear: We need real solutions. I support real solutions at the border,” Biden continued, adding, “Republicans have to decide if they want a political issue or if they want a solution at the border. Do they really want a solution? It cannot be sustained as it is now.”

Urging funding for Ukraine, Biden stated, “And you all have heard me talk about it before. If, in fact, we walk away, how many of our European friends are going to continue to fund? And at what rates are they going continue to fund it?”

“This is too serious. And like I said, I am willing to make significant compromises on the border. We need to fix the broken border system. It is broken. And thus far, I’ve gotten no response.”

Biden’s announcement comes as White House Office of Management and Budget Shalanda Young wrote a letter to House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), requesting more funds be given to Ukraine.

“I want to be clear: without congressional action, by the end of the year we will run out of resources to procure more weapons and equipment for Ukraine and to provide equipment from U.S. military stocks,” Young stated in the letter. “There is no magical pot of funding available to meet this moment. We are out of money—and nearly out of time.”

In October, Ukraine received $1.15 billion in direct budgetary assistance from the United States, American Faith reported.

The country’s Finance Ministry confirmed, “Today, 11 October, the State Budget of Ukraine received a $1.15 billion grant from the USA through the World Bank’s Multi-Donor Trust Fund.”

The financial aid went toward Ukraine’s government services, including payment of salaries, backing small businesses, supporting farmers, and offering other forms of economic sustenance.
