Biden Admin. to Close ICE Facility in Texas

The Biden administration is reportedly expected to close a facility used by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Dilley, Texas, to detain illegal immigrants crossing the southern border.

“U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement remains focused on meeting the constantly changing operational needs of the immigration enforcement mission in a fiscally responsible manner,” Patrick J. Lechleitner, acting director of ICE, said in a statement.

According to officials, the center is particularly more expensive than the others, and the department wants to make sure they are staying within “budget” provided by the federal government.

“We continue to evaluate contracts to ensure we are financially responsible and can increase removal flights and detention bed space capacity to support the dynamic immigration landscape while operating within the budget provided by Congress.”

The facility, originally built to house workers in nearby oil fields, has been used to detain families, specifically those with children, who have crossed into the United States illegally.
