In anticipation of a potential impeachment inquiry by the Republican Party, President Joe Biden’s administration has been quietly assembling a dedicated team.
According to NBC News, this “war room” is primarily composed of lawyers, legislative experts, and communication specialists.
Their aim is to address allegations concerning the president’s purported role in his son, Hunter Biden’s foreign business affairs.
This intensified focus on impeachment preparations reportedly began when committees’ investigations revealed potential misconduct by Biden during his time as Vice President.
The White House, however, remains defiant, with one aide comparing the situation to previous impeachments: “Comparing this to past impeachments isn’t apples to apples or even apples to oranges; it’s apples to elephants.”
“Never in modern history has an impeachment been based on no evidence whatsoever,” they claimed.
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) recently voiced the rising sentiments within the Republican Party on Fox News Channel, Newsmax points out.
“If you look at all the information we have been able to gather so far, it is a natural step forward that you would have to go to an impeachment inquiry,” McCarthy stated, asserting that this would grant Congress “the apex of legal power to get all the information they need.”
Sources told NBC News that the White House staff spent the August recess rigorously examining statements made by GOP members.
Their goal is to craft a refined message and form a robust response team.
They also studied the 1998 impeachment of President Bill Clinton, seeking insights on constructing a potent defense.
Key figures in Biden’s war room include defense attorney Richard Sauber, Russ Anello, previously from the House Oversight Committee, and communications experts Ian Sams and Sharon Yang, the latter being the ex-communications director for the pro-Biden group, Building Back Together.
They are expected to be the primary spokespeople for this initiative.
Ed Siskel, who has experience from the Obama-era White House counsel’s office, is also slated to join the team soon.
Beyond addressing GOP concerns, a major objective of the war room is to ensure the rest of the administration can continue governing effectively.
An aide clarified to NBC News, stating the intent is to prevent other officials from getting “bogged down in the minutia of ongoing investigations.”
