A report from NBC News claimed the Chinese spy balloon was able to translate data from electronic signals back to Beijing in real-time, despite the Biden administration saying otherwise.
NBC’s information came from two senior administration officials and one former senior administration official.
Pentagon spokesperson Sabrina Singh said during a press briefing, “I could not confirm that there was real-time transmission from the balloon back to (China) at this time.”
Singh added real-time transmission is “something we’re analyzing right now.”

Rather than visual imagery, which is easily gathered from other readily available sources, the craft gathered data from electronic signals, which were transmitted in real time to Beijing, the three officials told the outlet. Those electronic signals include communications from base personnel and signals that can be picked up from weapons systems.
