Bannon Subpoenas Speaker Pelosi, Jan 6 Committee Ahead of Upcoming Contempt Trial

Former Donald Trump adviser Steve Bannon has subpoenaed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and members of the special panel investigating January 6 to testify at Bannon’s pending trial, in which he faces two counts of criminal contempt of Congress for refusing to participate in the congressional investigation.

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer and House Majority Whip Jim Clayburn, neither of whom is on the investigative Democrat-led committee, are among 16 people named in the subpoena, which Bannon has filed while claiming the charges against him are politically motivated. He also has insisted that he is not guilty.

The Justice Department is pursuing a criminal contempt charge against Bannon and Trump trade adviser Peter Navarro. Former White House officials Mark Meadows and Dan Scavino, who also refused to appear before the committee, have not been indicted by the department.
