Arizona GOP Passes Resolution Calling for New RNC Chair

The Republican Party of Arizona released a statement last week formally calling on the Republican National Committee to elect a new leader while also calling for the resignation of Ronna McDaniel as chairwoman of the RNC.

In a tweet released last week, the Republican Party of Arizona stated, “Tonight, the Executive Committee of the @AZGOP unanimously passed a resolution calling for @GOPChairwoman Ronna Romney McDaniel’s resignation.”

The resolution states, “The Executive Committee of the Republican Party of Arizona hereby formally calls on the resignation of Ronna Romney McDaniel as Chairwoman of the Republican National Committee and thanks her for her tireless work for the past 6 years.”

Although McDaniel previously had President Trump’s support for RNC chair in 2016 and 2020, she has faced pressure from other Republican leaders regarding the mixed results in the recent midterm elections.

The Republican Party of Arizona joins a host of GOP leaders like Rep. Lee Zeldin, R-N.Y., in calling for McDaniel to step down from her position and allow a new leader to direct the future of the Republican Party. In a statement this week, Zeldin explained, “Change is desperately needed, and there are many leaders, myself included, ready and willing to step up to ensure our party retools and transforms as critical elections fast approach, namely the 2024 Presidential and Congressional races.”

While Zeldin announced he would not be running for the position of chairman of the Republican National Committee due to McDaniel’s “pre-baked” reelection, he indicated that McDaniel should not be running again for her position as chairwoman. “It’s time the GOP elects new leadership! It’s time for fresh blood,” he said.

Following Zeldin’s example, the Republican Party for Arizona’s unanimous resolution stated, “The executive Committee of the Republican Party of Arizona calls on the members of the Republican National Committee to elect new and bold leadership in the January 2023 meeting in order to recast a courageous vision to contrast with the disastrous failing policies implemented by the Biden Administration.”

According to a poll consisting of almost 71,000 votes shared on Twitter by Charlie Kirk with four potential Republican candidates for RNC chair, both Zeldin and Trump lawyer Harmeet Dhillon tied with 36 percent of the vote, MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell received 26 percent of the vote, and McDaniel received 2 percent of the vote.

While Zeldin has announced that he will not be running for the position, Lindell has stated that he is “100 percent running” against McDaniel for chair of the RNC. According to Just the News, Dhillon has also made comments that suggest she will run against McDaniel.

Dhillon recently stated, “After three successive terms of underwhelming results at the polls for the GOP, I feel that we owe it to our voters to have a serious debate about the leadership of the party and what we must change to actually win in 2024.”
