Apple Urged to Produce in U.S. or Face Tariff

President Donald Trump threatened to impose a tariff on Apple if it fails to move its manufacturing back to the United States.

“I have long ago informed Tim Cook of Apple that I expect their iPhone’s that will be sold in the United States of America will be manufactured and built in the United States, not India, or anyplace else,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “If that is not the case, a Tariff of at least 25% must be paid by Apple to the U.S. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”

Apple CEO Tim Cook has said that the company plans to shift some of its production to India by the end of the year, Financial Times reported.

“I said to Tim, I said, ‘Tim look, we treated you really good, we put up with all the plants that you build in China for years, now you got build us,” Trump said in response to Cook’s plan. “We’re not interested in you building in India, India can take care of themselves … we want you to build here.’”

Apple has also pledged to invest $500 billion in the United States during President Donald Trump’s second term.

Cook said in a statement upon the announcement that the company is “bullish on the future of American innovation, and we’re proud to build on our long-standing U.S. investments with this $500 billion commitment to our country’s future.” He noted: “From doubling our Advanced Manufacturing Fund, to building advanced technology in Texas, we’re thrilled to expand our support for American manufacturing. And we’ll keep working with people and companies across this country to help write an extraordinary new chapter in the history of American innovation.”
