Dearborn, Michigan Mayor Abdullah Hammoud has been appointed to the State Department’s Assembly of Local Leaders program, according to a report from The Washington Free Beacon.
The program will “engage with mayors, governors, and other municipal leaders on key issues that affect their communities,” a statement from the State Department reads.
Hammoud is known to have anti-Israel positions, writing in a 2021 Facebook post, “[F]rom the river to the sea, Palestine will be free.”
He also called Hamas’ attack on Israel “inevitable” due to Israel’s”decades of illegal military occupation and imprisonment of Gaza.”
When a hospital was decimated in Gaza, Hammoud was quick to blame Israeli military forces, although it was determined the rocket was Palestinian.
