American Veterans Injured in Gaza Grenade Attack While Distributing Aid

Two highly decorated American veterans working with the U.S.‑ and Israeli‑backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) were injured in a grenade attack at a food distribution center in Khan Younis, Gaza, on July 5, 2025. After a large and successful meal distribution, two militants reportedly threw Iranian-made grenades, packed with ball bearings, into the crowd targeting the veterans. Both remain in stable condition following evacuation and medical treatment, assisted by the Israel Defense Forces.

The GHF, which has delivered over 60 million meals since May, said Hamas had issued bounties on both its American and Palestinian staff. Executive Chairman Rev. Johnnie Moore described the attack as a clear example of violence being Hamas’s response to acts of compassion and aid.

This marks a continuation of violent incidents affecting aid efforts in Gaza. Last month, Hamas ambushed a GHF bus, resulting in the deaths of a dozen Palestinian staffers—an attack widely blamed on the militant group.

U.S. authorities, including Ambassador Mike Huckabee, condemned the grenade attack, stating it demonstrated “the depravity of Hamas” and emphasized that American aid workers will not be deterred. The GHF has reaffirmed its commitment to continue aid distribution despite escalating violence.
