AMC Theaters canceled the premiere of the film “No Way Back: The Reality of Gender-Affirming Care” after a transgender activist group protested against the film.
“[We] implore you to reconsider this decision immediately and demonstrate your commitment to supporting a more inclusive and accepting society,” the activist group, The Queer Trans Project, wrote.
The film features medical professionals and detransitioned individuals discussing their experiences and health complications.
Reporting from The Daily Signal:
“My first reaction is this is an illustration of the fact that there are a lot of people who are not interested in the truth,” Joseph Backholm, Family Research Council’s senior fellow for biblical worldview and strategic engagement, told The Washington Stand. ... For Backholm, what makes this film dangerous to trans activists is that the implications are morally devastating for them. If they’re wrong about transgenderism, he said, then what they’re doing with transgender surgery is no different than “Josef Mengele, the Nazi doctor who was experimenting on [Jews] just for fun.” ... “These are medical experiments, [potentially] done in most cases with good intentions … but the implications of [being wrong] make them terrible people,” Backholm concluded. “So, they have planted their flag, they have made their decision, and emotionally, the only thing they can do is defend it.”
