Almost Half of U.S. EV Drivers Considering Gas-Powered Cars

A recent survey by McKinsey & Co. found that almost half of American electric vehicle (EV) owners are considering going back to internal combustion engine cars.

The survey was distributed to 30,000 consumers across 15 countries.

Forty-six percent of survey respondents said they were likely to purchase a gas-powered vehicle for their next car purchase.

The primary reason behind the shift is the lack of charging infrastructure, respondents said.

Globally, 29% of EV owners are likely to switch back to internal combustion engine cars. Twenty-one percent of worldwide survey respondents stated they had no interest in purchasing an EV.

McKinsey & Co. Center for Future Mobility Leader Philipp Kampshoff was surprised at the survey results, stating, “I didn’t expect that. I thought, ‘Once an EV buyer, always an EV buyer.’”

Mainstream media sources have also admitted the failures of EVs.

“EV euphoria is dead,” CNBC wrote in a March report.

The outlet then described that major car companies, such as Ford, GM, Mercedes-Benz, and others are reducing their EVs to give consumers a greater choice.

According to CBNC, an “all-electric future” is still in the works, but “at a much slower pace” than originally thought.
