Alaska Airlines Experiences Technology Issues, Grounds Flights at Seattle Airport

Alaska Airlines experienced a significant technology issue on Monday, temporarily grounding flights at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and causing disruptions for passengers throughout the day.

The Seattle-based airline stated that the issue, which occurred on the morning of its Cyber Monday flight sale, led to delayed flights and problems with booking through its website, mobile app, and customer service center.

To manage the disruption, Alaska Airlines requested a 40-minute ground stop at Sea-Tac Airport to alleviate aircraft congestion. By Monday afternoon, the airline’s website displayed a notice acknowledging ongoing difficulties with booking and apologized for the inconvenience.

This marks the second major technology issue for the airline in recent months. In late September, flights were similarly grounded in Seattle due to an unspecified tech problem, highlighting recurring challenges for the carrier’s systems.

Alaska Airlines has since been responding to customer complaints on X (formerly Twitter), apologizing for the missed flights, delays, and booking frustrations caused by the outage.
