Alabama Republican Mike Rogers to Step Down From Steering Committee

Mike Rogers (R-AL) is reportedly stepping down from the Steering Committee after he had to be physically restrained from lunging toward Matt Gaetz (R-FL). The Steering Committee’s members are elected by region or chosen by leaders and decide House Committee assignments. Olivia Beavers of Politico claimed Mike Rogers is stepping down “on his own accord” and that “no one is encouraging” him to do so.

From National File:

“@RepMikeRogersAL and I have a six-year productive, working relationship. We’re going to work together wonderfully going forward. I don’t think there should be any punishment or reprisal just because he had an animated moment. He has my forgiveness,” Gaetz tweeted out.

“@RepMattGaetz and I have a long and productive working relationship, that I am sure will continue. I regret that I briefly lost my temper on the House Floor Friday evening and appreciate Matt’s kind understanding,” Rogers responded.
