After Assassination Scare, Raimondo Says It’s Time to ‘Banish’ Trump from U.S. Politics

On a recent Wednesday, US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo passionately argued that American voters should decisively remove Donald Trump from the political landscape. This comes in the wake of another attempt on the former president’s life, occurring just two weeks prior.

During an appearance on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Raimondo expressed frustration and anger at Trump’s claim, made at a Pennsylvania rally, that he is the “protector” of women. She criticized this stance as infuriating and diminishing, directly attributing the reversal of Roe v. Wade by the Supreme Court in June 2022 to him. She encouraged Americans to move beyond the former president’s “vindictiveness” and his negative attitudes toward women.

Raimondo stated, “When I saw that, when I saw the ‘protector,’ it was enraging, it was bloodcurdling, and it’s BS. Not only is it wrong and a lie, it belittles us. We’re not that stupid. We know he’s lying and we don’t need baloney telling us he’ll protect us, we know the facts of how he feels about women, he’s disrespectful to women, putting it mildly and he’s the one that overturned Roe … What he says is the opposite. It’s just another lie. Like, how did we get here? Let’s extinguish [Trump] for good. We have an answer, we have a remarkably talented candidate who is sincere, who is pragmatic, who is open. Let’s just get it done.”

In response to a question from co-host Mika Brzezinski for clarification, Raimondo emphasized her point, saying, “Vote him out. Banish him from American politics, yes. Just vote him out so that he goes away.” She highlighted Vice President Kamala Harris’ plan as a fresh start, urging a shift away from Trump’s tumultuous and divisive tenure.

On September 15, in West Palm Beach, Florida, a second assassination attempt on Trump was thwarted when Ryan Wesley Routh, aged 58, aimed an AK-47-style rifle at Trump while he was golfing. Routh was subsequently charged with attempting to assassinate a major presidential candidate, assaulting a federal officer, and possessing a firearm in the commission of a violent act.

Both the liberal media and President Joe Biden’s administration have labeled Trump a “threat to democracy.” MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough went as far as comparing him to Adolf Hitler after the assassination attempt. Routh, in his posts from April 2022, emphasized the importance of democracy, urging Biden to focus his campaign on keeping “America democratic and free.”

Following this second attempt on his life, Trump and several conservatives pointed fingers at the Biden administration’s rhetoric, suggesting it influenced Routh’s actions.
