Adelita Grijalva Announces Run for Late Father’s Arizona Congressional Seat

Adelita Grijalva, daughter of the late Arizona Congressman Raúl Grijalva, has officially announced her candidacy for Arizona’s 7th Congressional District. The seat became vacant following her father’s passing on March 13 after a battle with cancer.

Grijalva has been involved in public service for over two decades, first elected in 2002 to the Tucson Unified School District Governing Board. She currently serves on the Pima County Board of Supervisors but has stated she will resign from that position effective April 4 to focus on her congressional campaign.

“I am running for Congress because Southern Arizona deserves bold leadership that will fight for working families and stand up to Donald Trump,” Grijalva said in a statement. “Donald Trump, Elon Musk, and their gang of billionaires are destroying our nation. They’re destroying our schools. They’re attacking our most sacred rights. They’re poisoning our environment. But together, we will stop them. This fight starts right here, right now, in southern Arizona.”

Arizona’s 7th Congressional District includes portions of Phoenix, Tucson, and southeastern Arizona. With her extensive experience in local government and a well-known family name in Arizona politics, Grijalva is expected to be a strong contender in the race to fill her late father’s seat.
