Actress Christy Carlson Romano, former Disney Channel star, revealed that she was shot in the face while on a hunting trip in Texas for her husband Brendan Rooney’s birthday.
In a video posted to Instagram, Romano explained that she was shooting clay pigeons when a bullet fragment struck her eye. Doctors have determined that the fragment is too risky to remove surgically at this time.
“Yesterday was my husband’s birthday and I took him to shoot clay pigeons as a present. There was another party with us and they unsafely fired in the wrong direction and shot me in the face,” Romano posted.
Romano, best known for her roles in Even Stevens and Kim Possible, assured fans that she is recovering and expressed gratitude for the support she has received.
“I was hit in 5 places, one was less than an inch from hitting me directly in my right eye,” she said.
“With everything that happened, all I can think about is how grateful I am to be alive,” the star wrote. “I love my daughters, husband, family, and friends so much. I saw my life flash before my eyes and I’m telling you, hug the people around you every chance you can. Life can change in an instant. 🙏.”
Rooney, her husband whom the actress shares two children with, commented on her video with a supportive message.
“You are the bravest, toughest, most stoic and badass woman I have ever met,” he wrote. “I am so thankful you are alive. I am so thankful you are the mother to our children. I wouldn’t know what to do without you. I love you more than life itself. 🙏.”
