The United States and China released lists of products under a reciprocal tariff deal reached amid Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit last week.
The list, shared by the White House, declares that the Board of Trade’s mission is to “optimize bilateral trade,” explaining that the U.S. and China have “agreed to a dialogue under the Board of Trade to consider lists of mutually agreed upon imported goods totaling roughly $30 billion on each side, with a view toward providing reduced tariff treatment to those goods in a reciprocal manner, consistent with their respective domestic laws and processes.”
One list details 77 types of U.S. imports from China that will undergo tariff cuts. This list includes items such as fireworks, kitchen materials, bedding linens, toys, art supplies, and sports equipment, among other items. Another list details the nation’s exports to China, which includes more than 1,600 items. According to a translation of the list, items include animals such as horses, ducks, geese, sheep, turkeys, and others, frozen meats, vegetables, plants, oils, toiletries, and other supplies.
“As a direct result of the strong relationship between President Trump and President Xi, the United States and China, under the auspices of the new Board of Trade, have recommended $30 billion of trade in non-sensitive goods on each side that could benefit from more favorable tariff treatment in the future,” Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said in a statement. “From agricultural products to medical devices, President Trump is unlocking improved market access for about 30 percent of U.S. exports to China, while benefiting consumers with imports from China of household goods, toys, and other products that the United States generally does not import from other countries.”
“The Trump Administration will continue to pursue fair, balanced, and reciprocal trade with China by ensuring compliance with commitments on agricultural and energy purchases, pursuing balanced trade in non-sensitive goods, and securing market access for American farmers, manufacturers, businesses, and workers,” he said.
President Trump gifted Chinese President Xi Jinping with a custom-made bald eagle statue during his visit to the White House.
Trump announced the gift during a state dinner. “In that spirit of friendship, it’s my honor to present President Xi with a gift made by an extraordinary American artist, one of the greatest in the world, and designed in personal collaboration with Melania and myself,” he said, adding, “The bald eagle is a national symbol of the United States and an embodiment of the free and soaring spirit of America, and we hope it will find a nice place, a wonderful place in Beijing.”
