Jeff Clark, a former acting assistant attorney general who was himself targeted by politically motivated legal attacks, is assembling a team of lawyers to go after the prosecutors, investigators, and bar associations that have turned the American legal system into a weapon against conservatives.
The announcement came this week when Clark revealed he’s opening a new law firm under The Oversight Project’s banner, with a mission to combat what he called “government weaponization of all types.” The Washington-based watchdog organization is expanding beyond its traditional investigative role to actively defend those caught in the crosshairs of what supporters describe as lawfare.
“Evil lawfare needs to end,” The Oversight Project declared on X.
The firm’s targets are ambitious: congressional oversight abuses, state legislative branch overreach, corrupted bar discipline processes, and what Clark termed “bogus criminal indictments.” The scope covers both federal and state levels, including investigations into the investigators themselves.
Clark’s personal experience gives him credibility on the issue. As a former Trump administration official, he found himself on the receiving end of the very tactics his new firm aims to combat. Now he’s recruiting attorneys to join the fight.
“We already have a small team of dedicated lawyers with Article I, Article II, and/or Article III branch experience at the federal level and state government experience as well,” Clark wrote in his announcement. “You would join them and me in this important effort to turn our country around. We will be expanding our size and footprint significantly.”
The timing is notable. President Trump endured a special counsel probe during the Russia collusion investigation, which has since been widely discredited. After leaving office, the Biden administration’s Justice Department appointed another special counsel, while elected Democrat state prosecutors brought additional charges or lawsuits. The investigations swept up Trump campaign staff and White House personnel as well.
Clark isn’t looking for timid applicants. His recruiting call sought lawyers “at any stage of your career, who are patriotically and publicly spirited and are fed up with lawfare, barfare, weaponization, and efforts to turn the law into mechanized Marxism on the move.”
He continued, seeking those “who want to see the legal system reformed to consign that nonsense as quickly as possible to the discarded refuse and circular files of courts, bar administrative apparatuses, and regulatory agencies.”
The firm will also monitor state bar associations that target lawyers’ licenses over political disagreements. This addresses growing concerns among conservative attorneys that their professional credentials could be threatened for representing unpopular clients or taking positions contrary to progressive orthodoxy.
Trump himself was impeached twice by congressional Democrats during his first term, actions that supporters viewed as partisan overreach rather than legitimate constitutional exercises.
