A Democratic congressman is calling on Sen. John Fetterman to quit, saying the Pennsylvania senator has “no decent bone left in his body” after a Wall Street Journal report exposed a pattern of avoiding basic duties of office.
Former Rep. Conor Lamb, a fellow Pennsylvania Democrat, didn’t mince words in his response to the damaging revelations. “John, … if there is a decent bone left in your body, just quit,” Lamb said. “It’s an insult to decent people in our state for you to treat them and the office this way.”
The WSJ report painted a troubling picture of Fetterman’s tenure in the Senate, highlighting his tendency to skip committee meetings, avoid constituents, and refuse participation in formal events. Perhaps most striking: the senator reportedly refused to attend a police funeral in Pennsylvania and wouldn’t meet with a children’s hospital about Medicaid cuts.
His own party isn’t defending him.
Rep. Brendan Boyle, a Pennsylvania Democrat, unloaded on Fetterman in response to the story. “John Fetterman is a disgrace. Our state deserves better than a lazy trust fund baby who is too lazy to do the job,” Boyle wrote.
Rep. Chris Deluzio, another Pennsylvania Democrat, piled on with his own condemnation. “There is a lot I could say about this report of John Fetterman’s pathetic behavior as a Senator,” Deluzio said on X. “But between the laziness, disrespect, and willingness to carry water for a foreign government, it shows us something we already know: this man has no sense of duty.”
The revelations strike at the heart of what voters expect from their elected officials. A senator who won’t attend a fallen officer’s funeral. A senator who refuses to sit down with a children’s hospital fighting Medicaid cuts. A senator who can’t be bothered to show up for committee work or meet with the people who sent him to Washington.
The timing couldn’t be worse for Democrats trying to project competence and reliability to voters. With 2028 still years away, the party faces an uncomfortable choice: stand by a senator his own colleagues call “lazy” and a “disgrace,” or begin the messy process of finding someone willing to challenge an incumbent.
For now, Fetterman’s fellow Democrats seem to have made their choice. They’re not standing by him.
