Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) released more documents detailing years’ worth of Dr. Anthony Fauci’s “delete this email” orders.
According to the documents released by Paul’s office, Fauci repeatedly instructed email recipients to delete the files upon reading them. The instructions were issued over a period of nearly eleven years, with one specifically ordered to also be removed from the deleted items folder.
The exposed emails record Fauci as having written to Dr. Clifford Lane, an official at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), “I do not want to put down in an e-mail what I think of all of this. Entirely predictable, however. We should discuss at your convenience. Please delete e-mail after you read it.”
In another email to Lane, Fauci again instructed, “Please delete this e-mail and then delete from the deleted file.” The email detailed an editorial in The New York Times and Fauci’s discussion on an engineered virus. “The NSABB [National Science Advisory Board for Biosecurity] will circle the wagons and claim that their decision in no way was influenced by the fact that they did not realize that the aerosol-transmitted virus did not kill any ferrets or that the engineered virus was poorly transmissible compared to seasonal H1N1 or that the tracheal experiments required 100 X to 1000X the usual challenge dose to kill the ferrets or that prior infection with seasonal flu (even H3N2) protected the animals against tracheal challenge,” Fauci wrote, in part. “They will say that it was the mere fact that the virus was made transmissible in ferrets when it was not transmissible before engineering and passage. If this is the case and they do not change their recommendation, the field of research on influenza transmissibility and host adaptability has a very serious problem. Please delete this e-mail and then delete from the deleted file.”
Paul’s office also recovered files indicating that the CIA and NIAID had an “interagency agreement under which the transfer of funds and the contractual relationship between the two agencies were unclassified but restricted from public release,” the document says. “The agreement provided that NIAID would not disclose the resulting data without the CIA’s permission.”
A separate official, Dr. David Morens, a former adviser to Dr. Anthony Fauci, recently pleaded guilty in federal court to a conspiracy charge related to his evasion of the Freedom of Information Act requests and the Federal Records Act surrounding COVID-19 communications.
He was accused of criminal activity by the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic Republican Staff in 2024. In a memorandum, staff presented “overwhelming evidence from Dr. Morens’s own email that he engaged in serious misconduct and potentially illegal actions while serving as a Senior Advisor to Dr. Fauci during the COVID-19 pandemic,” a press release on the matter read at the time.
