President Trump signed an executive order establishing the first Presidential Military Spouse Commission, he announced from the Oval Office.
The Commission will be chaired by Jennifer Hegseth, War Secretary Pete Hegseth’s wife.
“America cannot have the strongest military in the world without the love and devotion of our remarkable military spouses who make the extraordinary sacrifices for our country,” President Trump said, explaining that military spouses spend months separated while their loved ones are deployed overseas. Drawing attention to the “unique challenges” faced by military spouses and families, Trump added, “This Commission will provide recommendations for improving the quality of life for military spouses so that we can better support both our military families and the entire United States armed forces.”
The Commission will develop suggestions to address challenges in housing, employment, healthcare, education, and other areas. “The Commission will help ensure we continue to give military spouses our very best, so our military can continue to be the strongest military anywhere in the world,” Trump declared.
“Strong families equal strong formations,” Secretary Hegseth said, “and if your family’s not taken care of that, then it causes hesitation and complications for the warfighters up front.”
“If that warfighter knows that their family is good to go, they will go the the extra mile, which is what our nation asks,” he said.
According to the text of the executive order, “Thriving military families mean a more resilient fighting force and thus a stronger and more secure America. It is the policy of the Federal Government to prioritize the quality of life of our military spouses and families while maintaining the highest standards of military readiness.”
