Trump Admin Harnesses AI in Revolutionary ‘Genesis Mission’

The Trump administration dedicated $5 billion to the expansion of the Genesis Mission, a national effort developing artificial intelligence for scientific discovery.

“America’s greatest scientific achievements have been born of national mobilizations paired with the construction of new institutions. The Genesis Mission is the next chapter in that tradition, as we work together to harness AI for scientific discovery at a scale no one else on the planet can match,” said White House Office of Science and Technology Policy Michael Kratsios.

The program launched through a November 2025 executive order incorporating a whole-of-government effort through more than fifteen federal agencies. “The Genesis Mission will build an integrated AI platform to harness Federal scientific datasets — the world’s largest collection of such datasets, developed over decades of Federal investments — to train scientific foundation models and create AI agents to test new hypotheses, automate research workflows, and accelerate scientific breakthroughs,” the order says, adding that it will “dramatically accelerate scientific discovery, strengthen national security, secure energy dominance, enhance workforce productivity, and multiply the return on taxpayer investment into research and development, thereby furthering America’s technological dominance and global strategic leadership.”

Projects through the Genesis Mission include those in computing, semiconductors, medical innovation, disease treatment, and other areas.

The project aligns with “America’s AI Action Plan,” released last year, which declares that artificial intelligence will generate an “information revolution” enabling “new intellectual achievements: unraveling ancient scrolls once thought unreadable, making breakthroughs in scientific and mathematical theory, and creating new kinds of digital and physical art—a renaissance.”
