GOP Expands ActBlue Probe

House Republicans have escalated their investigation into Democratic fundraising giant ActBlue, requesting that five of the organization’s board members sit for transcribed interviews and hand over documents related to allegations of foreign donor fraud.

The chairs of three House committees, Administration Committee Chairman Brian Steil (R-WI), Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-KY), and Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH), sent letters to the board members Tuesday, giving them until June 16 to voluntarily cooperate with the probe.

“Information produced to the Committees and public reporting indicate that ActBlue’s Board of Directors may have participated in or been aware of this misconduct,” the Republican chairmen wrote in letters first obtained by Fox News. “Accordingly, we write to request your voluntary cooperation with our oversight.”

The move comes eight days before ActBlue CEO Regina Wallace-Jones is scheduled to testify before the House Administration Committee at a June 10 hearing focused on the company’s vetting of foreign donations.

“Ms. Wallace-Jones allegedly misled our committee at the outset of our investigation into ActBlue’s fraud prevention standards,” Steil said in a statement. “It’s past time we set the record straight and got answers for the American people.”

Republicans are also examining a series of internal departures at the organization. One ActBlue lawyer had his computer access cut off after he attempted to warn the board about potential legal exposure. Two ActBlue employee unions subsequently told the board that current leadership had created a “growing pattern of volatility and toxicity” and that the resulting turnover was “eroding our confidence in the stability of the organization.”

“The union noted that ActBlue’s legal and compliance functions had been compromised,” the committee chairs wrote in their letters Tuesday.
