President Trump arrived in Beijing, marking the first time a sitting U.S. president has traveled to China in nearly a decade.
Upon departing the White House, Trump told reporters, “We’re the two superpowers. We’re the strongest nation on Earth in terms of military. China’s considered second.”
Leading U.S. business leaders are also traveling alongside Trump, Fox News reports, such as officials with Apple, Boeing, Tesla, BlackRock, and Goldman Sachs. The report explained that discussions on artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and nuclear programs will be had, as well as trade arrangements, including a “Board of Trade.”
Ahead of his visit, the Chinese Embassy in the U.S. laid out four issues that are not to be shifted amid talks between U.S. and China. These points include the “Taiwan question,” “democracy and human rights,” “paths and political systems,” and “China’s development right.”
In a Truth Social post on Monday, President Trump wrote, “I am very much looking forward to my trip to China, an amazing Country, with a Leader, President Xi, respected by all. Great things will happen for both Countries!”
Last month, Trump told Fox Business’ “Mornings With Maria” that he warned China against providing Iran with weapons. Chinese President Xi Jinping claimed that was “not doing that.”
“He responded to a letter that I wrote because I had heard that China is giving weapons to — I mean, you’re seeing it all over the place — to Iran,” Trump told Maria Bartiromo. “And I wrote him a letter asking him not to do that, and he wrote me a letter saying that essentially he’s not doing that.”
